In today’s climate of heightened environmental awareness, consumers are becoming increasingly concerned with reducing their carbon and ecological footprint. Choosing a house or flat to buy is a key decision when seeking a greener lifestyle. The Code for Sustainable Homes succeeds EcoHomes as a fully comprehensive assessment of the environmental impact and sustainability of a residential dwelling.
Certification is therefore a valuable marketing tool.
The Code is now a Government initiative in partnership with the Building Research Establishment. It is now mandatory for all new homes to have a rating against the Code.
Gaining the required Code for Sustainable Homes rating can seem a daunting prospect. Dwellings are assessed under each of the nine categories, with mandatory standards required for Energy, Water, Materials, Waste and Surface Water Run-off. Total points achieved are converted into a star rating, ranging from Level 1 (36 points) to Level 6 (90 Points).
Here at BHP HARWOOD Architects, as a Licensed Code for Sustainable Homes and EcoHomes Assessment Organisation, we aim to make the process as straightforward and hassle free as possible.
We offer the following services:
Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment — we offer advice and guidance from the initial stages of design conceptualisation and Pre-Assessment Estimation, leading to the full Design Stage Assessment and now compulsory Post Construction Stage Assessment.
